What's a Doula?

Why a Doula?

What is a Doula?
A Doula is professionally trained in labor and postpartum support for the emotional and physical needs of the mother and her family.  A doula also assists in helping the family make informed decisions about the mother’s labor and birth.
The term Doula, literally translates to “Women’s Servant” or “Women’s Caretaker”.

Women by nature are nurturing beings.  For thousands of years women have supported other women during their labor and births.
This continuous individualized support provides comfort, reassurance and encouragement which aids in meeting the mother’s wide variety of needs, in this very exciting and confusing time.
